I used to think the important moments with my kids would be the big ones.
Birthdays.
Vacations.
Special events.
The kind of things you plan for.
The kind of things you remember.
But I’m starting to realize something I wish I understood earlier…
Most of the moments that actually matter?
They’re not planned.
They don’t show up on a calendar.
They don’t come with a countdown.
And they don’t wait for you to be ready.
They happen on random days.
In between everything else.
A quick laugh.
A small conversation.
A few minutes where you choose to be present instead of distracted.
That’s where the real memories are.
And the truth is…
We miss a lot of them.
Not because we don’t care.
But because we’re waiting for something bigger.
Something more “important.”
But what if those small moments are the important ones?
What if the memory your child carries with them forever…
comes from something that almost didn’t happen at all?
That’s what I’m trying to get better at.
Not waiting.
Not needing a reason.
Just choosing to show up—right now.
Because the best moments don’t come from planning.
They come from paying attention.
